The Year’s With(out) Lead: Bodies, Bullets, and the 1970s Italian Extreme: A Special Panel Discussion
Friday 25th May - 7.30pm-9pm (The Italian Cultural Institute)
|
Cine-Excess VI is proud to be hosting a special panel discussion
on 1970s Italian cult cinema and society, in conjunction with our partners at
the Italian Cultural Institute, London. Here, acclaimed international
filmmakers and critics will discuss a range of popular Italian thriller, action
and sexploitation cycles in light of the wider social and sexual traumas that
defined the blood splattered decade commonly referred to as the Italian ‘Years
of Lead.’ The panel will explore how 1970s domestic fears affected both depictions of violence and sexuality across a range of filone or popular continental cycles that are now being reclaimed as significant cinematic documents of this turbulent decade.
Contributing to this special debate is iconic Italian action auteur Enzo G. Castellari, who helmed some of the most brutal and melancholic crime and western dramas during the seventies, as well as creating the original version of The Inglorious Bast***s(1978), recently given a blockbuster redux by Quentin Tarantino. Also participating in this in special panel discussion is Sergio Martino, whose landmark seventies thrillers and sexy comedies (often featuring the star Edwige Fenech) can be viewed as expressing wider Italian male fears around lost social status and sexual potency. Alongside our two Cine-Excess VI guests, we are also delighted to welcome Professor Mary P. Wood (Birkbeck College, London), whose lecture on 1970s Italian cult cinema begins the session. ‘The Year’s With(out) Lead: Bodies, Bullets, and the 1970s Italian Extreme’ will be chaired by Dr Xavier Mendik (Director of Cine-Excess). ‘The Year’s With(out) Lead: Bodies, Bullets, and the 1970s Italian Extreme’ is open to cinema goers over the age of 18, and tickets are priced at £7 each, which also includes free entry to the 9pm screening of Keoma. This panel discussion is also free to all Cine-Excess VI delegates holding a full or day rate pass. Early booking is advised. Please book online with the Italian Cultural Institute: Book Online |
