Cine-Excess II:
The Institute of Contemporary Arts 1st - 3rd May 2008 Because of the overwhelming success of the 2007 event Cine-Excess II: the Second International Conference on Global Cult Film was held at the Institute of Contemporary Arts between the 1st-3rd May 2008. The event celebrated and re-evaluated some of the biggest trends, icons, auteurs and periods of global cult film production. From Grindhouse to gross-out, kung fu to kitsch, blaxploitation to sexploitation, weird world cinema and beyond, Cine-Excess II featured over 50 talks by leading international cult film critics and scholars including: ![]() Sir Christopher Frayling delivers his keynote presentation at Cine-Excess II Cine-Excess II Guest of Honour ![]() Roger Corman at Cine-Excess II, and receiving his award from Jane Asher The New Splatpack: A Special Cine-Excess II Panel on New Brit Horror Cine-Excess II was proud to promote home-grown contemporary horror at its 'New Splatpack Panel Session on Thursday 1st May (6.30-8pm). From sex and death head spinners like Mindflesh and urban rap Gothic films such as Wish Baby, to terrifying teen dramas including Summer Scars, a new generation of directors are putting the cruel into cool Britannia. Leading film critic Kim Newman interviewed three leading directors on the new Brit horror scene: Julian Richards (The Last Horror Movie, Summer Scars), Stephen Parsons (Wish Baby) and Robert Pratten (London Voodoo, Mindflesh).
